I have installed iSeries Client Access for linux
(iSeriesAccess-5.2.0-1.1.i386.rpm) on SuSE 8.2. When I start ibm5250 (I have
already run setup5250), after I enter my name and password, I get the
following error:

CWBSY0002 - Password for user on server 192.168.1.1 is not correct

Note the blanks between words "user" and "on".

did you enter the user id in the setup? and also did you start your
hostserver, check user QUSER. See also:

I am 100% sure (tried many times). I tried other users also. It did not
help.

I did. I've read that guide. I have also read the iseries_access_5250.pdf

All hostsvr on server are started. I also checked all the prerequisites on
client.

Client Access v5.1 with same user and setup on Windows works.

AS/400 is on 5.1 (should be supported)

Hi Damir,

try to activate trace:

/opt/ibm/iSeriesAccess/bin/cwbtrc /DT:1 /HL:1

and take a look to $HOME/.iSeriesAccess/.....

It seems that this software is not very stable... i could reproduce your
error just 2 times but now i cannot anymore. :-(

Ok, it seems that you are running the setup5250 as root but you try to
logon in the AS/400 as qsecofr or an other user but not root....

Try to add to the linux box and to AS/400 the same user and then try to
run setup5250 or ibm5250 as this user, i think it was an similar problem
with old CA's on Windows (user on AS/400 was not identical to user on
Windows and an login to AS was not possible)....

I created qsecofr and damir(my name) accounts and ran setup5250 and ibm5250
and on both of them given the identical accounts returned the same error.

I wonder how did you ever manage to make it working.
You have Suse 8.2 too? CD version w/o patches?
I have Suse 9 at home, perhaps I could try on it. Then, maybe some other
Linux distro or give up.

I installed it iSeriesAccess on Debian GNU/Linux and it is working OK.
Start setup5250 as user (not root), make a new connection.
Enter Connection description and IP address. Press Advanced 5250
connection and enter user name and password you are using to connect to
iSeries. Press OK, OK. Press Conncetion/Connect. And you are connceted.

The only problem I see for now is that there is no SSL (tn5250 ssl is
working with no problems) for now. And second, I am from Croatia, and we
are using 870 CCSID. I can see special characters but they are not the
same as in tn5250 (map=870).

P.S. Special characters -

Hi Dejan

Would you care to give details on how you got it working with Debian?

I used alien to convert the .rpm to .deb and installed that okay. However
it failed running setup5250 with what appeared to be hard coded paths to
/usr/bin, when alien configured the .deb to install to /usr/local/bin. I
copied the files to the required locations and tried again, but hit the
same password error that Damir reports. I tried installing on SuSE 8.2 and
hit the password error again. My userID/passwd are the same on our AS/400s
(V5R1) as on my Linux box.

Just to follow-up on this - having just read Mark V's post about the
hostname length issue I retried it on my SuSE install with a longer
hostname. It worked fine, so I presume the same would be true on my Debian
box - but I'm not about to change the hostname on that & mess up my ssh
settings ;)

menus and scrollbars and I can't use them with tn5250.

We use OMS too, and I guess the enhanced stuff must have come in after
I switched to Linux (OMS since '97, Linux since '99) as I didn't know it
was there till you mentioned it... I'll have to look on a CA/400 session
to see what I've been missing :) I miss field cursor progression support
the most, as that was useful.

This is a known bug and will be fixed in the next release. You can work
around it by making your client host name 7 characters or greater.

hahahah.. all this spent hours because my client hostname is not 7
characters or more..

sorry, I had to laugh

Thank you very much. I' m sure you helped many of us.

P.S. Why IBM didn't release this information??

The bug was only found a few days ago...and we are slowing getting the word
out as well as preparing a product update.

nice, my host name was 3 characters long and it worked for 2 or 3 times
after that i get an error:
5250: [ ERROR ]: NSC0017: Xt Warning: Cannot convert string
"-b&h-lucidatypewriter-medium-r-normal-sans-23-*-100-100-m-120-iso8859-15"
to type FontStruct.

Ok, i do not have this font, but why did it started before an now i get
this error?

I installed all the font rpms I could find from the Suse CDs and I got rid
of that error. Still missing scalable fonts. I also had to reboot before it
start working.

the font problem was solved like in faq documented (you have an 8.2 from
SUSE ;-)):

open /etc/X11/XF86Config

and change in Section Files:
...
Section "Files"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled"
...
to
...
Section "Files"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi"
...

restart your X

Thanks to Mark Vanderwield I managed to get my CA/400 working. But I still
have the error:

5250: [ ERROR ]: *****Check your /etc/X11/XF86Config file*****
-b&h-lucidatypewriter-medium-r-normal-sans-0-* scalable fonts are
not available.

and I can't span my session to the full screen.
Can I download that fonts from somewhere?

Other problem is, I don't have Croatian letters in the session (870 CCSID).
I doubt I can figure this out by myself.

TIA.

cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/XF86Config

This is IBM mistake, they should first check XF86Config-4 and then if
this doesn't exist, check XF86Config.

And about lucidatypewriter, there is a packet msttcorefonts or something
like that.

Now I see. If I use tn5250 with 870 I can see Croatian letters in CA/400
express in windows, but with ibm5250 I don't. I can use this letters on
linux but they are not 870 and I don't see this letter OK on Windows.

Maybe we should look in /opt/ibm/iSeriesAccess/mri folder? Maybe Mark
could help us with IBM and say them to make hr and 870 for Linux?

I made adjustments to X11Config according to FAQ but I still can't use
ibm5250 in full screen mode. When I press "maximize" I have full screen for
a moment, then it gets back to its previous size. Fonts remain the same
(15x28), they don't stretch.

Also there is problem with Croatian letters. I see there is no hr_HR in mri/
folder.
