Hello there,

I have a bizarre problem I need serious help with. I have an office set up
over a VPN-connection (2 Mbit/s). Some users are thrown out of the 5250
session. It can happen to one user, but the guy sitting right next to him
has no problems. The Firewalls are Symantecs. Any ideas?

Thanx

Is it a DSL connection? If so, try lowering the MTU on the firewalls
to 1492 (or lower).

We had exactly the same thing.
The reason were time outs. We had a much too long way from the entry
point at the other end of the continent thru a frame relay network to
our LAN. It was better after our users changed from ISDN to DSL and
completely gone after we changed the access point directly to our LAN.

Also there should be some timer settings on the AS/400, either in
TCP/IP or telnet server config. But I have not looked for them yet.

If trhe two guys use the same connection, possibli the problem should be on the
PC tha's failing. Maybe it's windows that is switching off the nic to save
power. Look in nic configuration in windows network.
